                            IRRIGATION AND ITS TYPES

IRRIGATION

Irrigation is the artificial application of water to the soil through various systems of tubes, pumps and sprays. It is usually done in areas where the rainfall is irregular and it is dry time or drought is expected.

TYPES OF IRRIGATION

SURFACE IRRIGATION :

In surface irrigation system, the water moves across the surface of agricultural lands, in order to wet it and infiltrate into the soil.

LOCALIZED IRRIGATION :

In this system the water is distributed under low pressure through a piped network, in a pre determined pattern and applied as a small discharge to each plant or adjacent to it.

DRIP IRRIGATION :

It is also known as trickle irrigation, functions as its name suggests. In this system the water falls drop by drop just at the position of roots.

SPRINKLER SYSTEM :

In this system the water is piped to one or more central locations  within the field and distributed by overhead - high pressure sprinklers or guns.

  1. Thank you for your information Nimisha . Irrigation is one of the important thing in agriculture . Without water the plants will not be able to grow so irrigation plays an important role in agriculture if the water supply is not good the plants will die and will not be able to grow properly .
