TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE AGRICULTURE

One of the best way to upgrade agriculture is to introduce plant breeding in a larger scale. Plant breeding is the purposeful manipulation  of plant species in order to create desired plant types, give better yield and diseases resistant crops.
Wheat and rice are most widely consumed cereals in India. The development of several  high yielding varieties of wheat and rice, as a result of plant breeding techniques, will lead to a dramatic increase in food production. Hybrid varieties have are resistant to water stress and are nutritionally evolved.
Breeding and development of cultivars resistant to disease enhance food production. This helps reduce the use of fungicides and pesticides. These breeding techniques can be conventional or mutational.
Diets lacking essential micronutrients increase the risk for diseases, reduces lifespan, etc. BIOFORTIFICATIIN - breeding crops with higher levels of vitamins and minerals or higher protein and healthier fat  - is the most practical means to improve public health. Maize hybrids that had twice the amount of the amino acids compare to the existing ones were developed. Wheat variety Atlas 66 was introduced with a higher protein content.
These methods will provide nutritionally improved food that are resistant to diseases with no use of chemical or any other artificial appliances.

  1. I feel hybrid varieties will produce more benefited plant species... obviously, biofortification is an essential one as it enriches the nutrient value of several plant species thereby we can get good nourishment rich plants and plant products. Thank you so much Ashwini for sharing this info about very useful techniques in agriculture.

  2. I agree with you nimisha but in hybrid variety the nutrient value will become less so that only the food we are eating now is not so good like the food wat our father had. So due to hybrid variety the nutrient value of food will be reduced.
